Personality:

Edgar is a ball of anxiety and paranoia due to his violent upbringing. He never had a sense of security amidst the small group of performers he and his mother were in. The leader of the group, Lestor, had a personal grudge against Edgar and made sure to torture the young boy into doing tedious chores or threatening the kid just to get a reaction. This of course made poor Edgar anxious to do whatever he did to be perfect or at least to the standards of Lestor. When he failed to do so he was punished physically or mentally (threatening to do something but not act upon it, just to keep Edgar on edge). Edgar jumps at the smallest touch (a small graze even) and does not like attention at all (he flinches whenever someone says his name, even if it is in greeting. He also does not know how to take compliments). Underneath all his insecurities, Edgar is very resourceful and quick-witted. He is able to plan many escape routes at any given scenario, although the chances he can accomplish these are little to none. The only time Edgar is not anxious is when he is alone with his pokemon companions. With his pokemon he feels safe and loved and will go beyond his capabilities to protect them, as they are his only family left.

History:

Edgar grew up in a small band of performers with his mother. The group was gentle with neither Edgar nor his mother. Coming to the group in rags and an infant, Penelope was brought in with the notion that she would do all the busy work. She gladly accepted and did it for the next 12 years. Eventually Edgar helped with the chores.

It was when Edgar turned 13 that he was trained to become the group’s main pickpocket, as the old one was - well old. They needed someone to blend in with the crowd and what better than a mere child. Penelope didn’t like it but could do nothing to stop them. Edgar didn’t mind because it got him more food.

Lestor, the leader of the group, was not a gentle man. He preferred to smack things or people until they worked. He hit Penelope all the time because he was just never satisfied. It was one day that Edgar had enough and went to defend his mother. That only angered Lestor and let his Liepard attack both. Nikolos, the second command, was the only reason that the both lived.

Nikolos was able to persuade Lestor from forcing the two to leave and he took them under his influence. Edgar beat himself up for the event as his mother quickly turned ill, hindering her from her chores. Edgar took the brunt of the chores, but didn’t like how weak he was to not even protect his own mother.

Seeing Edgar’s determination and work ethic in both his chores and pickpocketing, Nikolos decided to help Edgar. Nikolos was a knife thrower in the group, so he offered to teach Edgar in the art of the knives. Needless to say Edgar was quick to his offer.

The recent presence of war hanging over the nation brought little to no audience during performances. Discouraged and angered, Lestor easily gave into drinking almost all the time. In one of his drunken rages, he shoved Penelope too hard and it killed her upon impact. Edgar would’ve avenged his mother right then and there, but the shock rendered him still.

It was Nikolos’ grace that Edgar lived. Lestor ordered for Edgar to be killed after the shock of killing Penelope wore off and the rest of the group were eager to oblige. Nikolos quickly grabbed Edgar, provisions and their pokemon and escaped from the group. It was in vain as the group caught up to them. Nikolos knew that both he and Edgar couldn’t leave together and stood to hold off the group. He gave Titania, his duduo, to Edgar so they could escape. Edgar didn’t want to leave him alone, the only family he still considered left, but Titania obeyed Nikolos and took Edgar far away against his wishes.

Eventually they stopped and only then did Edgar grieve his loses. Eventually his provisions began to run out forcing Edgar to find the nearest town. That’s how he learned of the Rangers. Not sure what to do with his life, he decided to sign up. Edgar hopes to become stronger within the rangers. No, he needs to get stronger. Edgar will never lose his loved ones ever again without a fight.

Bri: Whimsicott

About: Bri was Penelope's only pokemon companion and Bri easily represents Penelope's motherly love. She is the pillar of support that Edgar and his pokemon need in their lives and in fights.

Nigel: Numel
Ability: Simple
Nature: Calm
Moves: Heat Wave/ Earth Power/ Amnesia/ Protect
About: Nigel is the only pokemon of Edgar's that originally was owned by Edgar himself. Nigel originally was being groomed to become a pack pokemon and he would've been had Edgar not convinced Lestor that they didn't need another large pokemon to continuously feed. After that incident Nigel has stayed alongside Edgar for the past 5 years being a constant, comforting presence to Edgar. Nigel has always yearned to protect Edgar from Lestor and the rest but Edgar would always shrug the frequent injuries and insults off telling Nigel not to start a fight. However now that they're away from the band, Nigel will protect Edgar no matter what.

Titania
Ability: Early Bird
Nature: Adamant
Moves: Drill Peck/ Return/ Acupressure/ Rest
About: Titania was Nikolos' mount and scout. Titania has a hard resolve and will only listen to one person. When Edgar was starting to pickpocket, Titania also started as Nikolos' mount. At first she barely paid any attention to Edgar, but when both Edgar and Penelope were brought under Nikolos' influence she began to warm up to Edgar. She sometimes let Edgar ride her on the occasions Nikolos allowed it. It pains Titania that her innate ability to return to her master, she cannot find the pull of Nikolos' anymore.

Extra:
I. Edgar has three scars on his right cheek bone, with the middle scar slightly bigger and longer than than the adjacent ones. He got this when Lestor let his Liepard attack both Edgar and Penelope.

II. He does know how to read albeit rather really, REALLY slow. Penelope taught him whenever she could.

III. Some of the acrobats and dancers in the band briefly taught Edgar their routines and exercises. Edgar used to practice with them while he wasn't pickpocketing or doing his chores.

IV. He never got food much so he will eat like he's never eaten before (because he really hasn't eaten a real meal). When offered sweets or pastries, BE PREPARED FOR THE CONSEQUENCES.

Trying out Cell Shading. I'm kinda liking it. It's a lot faster than realistic painting. Literally finished the app in 3 hrs (lining + coloring).
